In my last post, we started talking about putting together a photo wall. Once you begin visualizing and putting together photos, your next decision will be about color: color for the photos, color for the frames and/or mats, etc. Again, there is no right or wrong choice, since really the ultimate goal of photos is to help you remember the good times, important people and beauty in your life.

To Color or Not To Color
Each style lends a different look and feeling to your photo wall. Color highlights the energy of young children and the outdoors while black and white works particularly well in multi-generation groupings. While it’s certainly fine to use both color and black and white, choosing one style often makes a stronger and more cohesive impression. You can always have photos reprinted in either color or black and white, so don’t let what’s stacked up in your photo box limit your decision.

The Great Frame Dilemma
There are lots of great framing options depending your budget and the look you want to achieve. If symmetry is your thing, choose frames in the same color and style and vary the sizes to fit your photos. For a more eclectic look, mix it up with frames of different shapes, sizes, and colors. Or, meet in the middle with frames of the same color in different sizes and styles. For a fun do-it-yourself project, find interesting, inexpensive frames at thrift stores and spray paint them yourself.
